This past week, while walking my class down the hall, I heard the occasional hum of a Christmas carol. While students are unpacking the share stories of where they found their elf. One of my students announced to anyone who would listen that her elf still have 8 more days of quarantine before he gets out of his jar. (Wise parent). As the rumbles of excitement grow louder over the next two weeks I know we are going to be having almost daily conversations about how we are still in school and a lot of learning takes place and it is still important to listen and follow directions. Truth be told, those daily conversations are as much for me as there are for my students... ;-)
DISTANCE LEARNING PACKETS: We are still missing some distance learning packets. Please note that students will be given a completion grade for the packets. The completion of the packets is also a way for us to track attendance for those three days. This packet must be turned in by tomorrow. SUPPLIES NEEDED FOR THE CLASSROOM: Hand sanitizer - As I am sure you can well imagine, we are going through a lot of hand sanitizer this year. We are down to our last 2 bottles. If you are able to donate a bottle of hand sanitizer we would greatly appreciate it! Craft supplies - At the end of the week next week we are going to be doing a fun Frog and Toad craft activity and we will need a large variety of craft supplies. Below is a list of possible craft supplies that students can easily use for the activity: - large sequins - small buttons - pieces of tissue paper - little pom poms - paper with fun designs that can be cut out - for those of you who do paper crafting and have punches, punching out some designs and sending some in baggies (Please do not send the actual paper punch tools as we are not allowed to share items like that this year.) If you are able to donate any craft supplies we would appreciate it if we could have them by this Friday the 11th. *Note - I must ask that you not send in glitter. First graders + glitter = a huge mess and we love our wonderful cleaning ladies way too much to have to deal with glitter piles. ;-) (Distance Learning students will not be left out. I will be putting the craft activities in Google Classroom.) GENERAL ACADEMICS: Spalding - Students will learn 8 new words on Monday and Tuesday, 9 new words on Wednesday and review the 25 words on Thursday. The spelling test will be on Friday. Math - We will finish up the unit on Comparing Numbers today (Monday.) The rest of this week will be a review of all the concepts taught during the first semester with an emphasis on adding and subtracting numbers to 20 and story problems. Tonight (Monday) students will have two math workbook pages for homework. The rest of the week students will be bringing home review worksheets for math homework. History - Aztec, Inca, and the arrival of Europeans Literature - Frog and Toad all Year Grammar - Proper Nouns with the focus on the Calendar Poetry - "Merry Sunshine" *Note - Poetry recitations are this week! (Distance learners - I will have you recite your poems during our live Zoom on Thursday and Friday.) On a Personal Note - I am writing the bulk of this blog entry on Sunday afternoon. My new kitten Grease has been "helping" me. If I hadn't deleted her work you would have seen a lot of a;liwelxcvno;war asdsndfo in the middle of sentences. Luckily my other cat, Splat is trying to distract her... or not so lucky as their favorite place to run while playing chase is across the keyboard... Naming the good: Christmas books Christmas paper Christmas bows Christmas music :-) Have a fun week! |
