Hello!
This will be a short post for a short week. MATH: There is no math homework listed for this week, however I do suggest that you use math flashcards to practice math facts. As I stated in earlier blogs, you can purchase flashcards at Dollar Tree or you can make them on index cards. MATH FACT MEMORY GAME: When we come back to school in January we will be working on graphs and then we will be moving into addition and subtraction within 40. One of the skills that will really help when adding and subtracting through 40 is knowing the basic addition and subtraction math facts through 10. You can practice those math facts by playing a memory game. Write the facts on some cards, the answers on other cards, mix them up, place them face down and play a memory game. Not only will your child be able to practice the math facts, but they will also have to remember where the answer and the rest of the equation is placed. When your child becomes fluent with the math facts through 10 you can add the facts through 12, then 20. PENCIL BAGS: I just wanted to give you a head's up and let you know that many of the students' well-used pencil bags are falling apart. The bags that have the heavy duty metal zippers are holding up quite well. The bags that have the plastic slide zippers are falling apart and no longer zip. SPALDING: We have ten words for this week. We learned the ten new words today. We will review the words tomorrow and the spelling test will be on Wednesday. LITERATURE: Frog and Toad All Year PROJECT WEEK: The first round of information about project week will be sent home tomorrow (Tuesday). Your child has been randomly assigned a specific body system. The assignment is stapled to the note which will be in your child's red homework folder. More information will be sent home when we return to school in January. Enjoy your break!

And the excitement of December continues!
CONCERT: Our class sang wonderfully well at the concert last week. I got tears in my eyes because I remembered how little the children were when school started in August. They have grown so much! WATER BOTTLES: Several students are forgetting their water bottles each day. The weather is cooler, yes, but they still get thirsty. Please make sure your child has a full water bottle before heading to school each morning. MATH: We spent our math block reviewing for the chapter 9 unit test - "Comparing Numbers." We sent the test reviews home today in the red folders. They have not been graded or checked for accuracy. Feel free to go over the review with your child. You do not need to send the review back to school. The unit test will be on Tuesday. We will be spending Tuesday through Friday of this week reviewing all the math concepts taught during the first semester. The homework will focus on reviewing those concepts as well. LITERATURE: Frog and Toad All Year GRAMMAR: Noun - Person, place, thing, or idea Pronoun - A word that takes the place of a noun SCIENCE: The human body 2ND QUARTER LITERACY CELEBRATION: The 2nd quarter literacy celebration is next Monday on the 18th. UPCOMING DATES: December 18th - 20th - Half Day Dismissal, 12pm (No lunch is served. Please send a healthy snack to school to eat during snack recess.) December 21st - January 5th - No School, Winter break Enjoy your week. :-) Hi there! December is such a fun month because there is so much going on. Tonight's concert will, I am sure, be very enjoyable!
CONCERT INFORMATION: You will have already received most of your concert information from the music teacher and the Athenian Echo. I am just going to include a couple of things while I am thinking about it. - The first grade concert is from approximately 6 - 6:30. Students need to arrive by 5:30 because rehearsals begin at 5:35. The kindergarten concert is before our concert and while many of the kindergarten students will be leaving please account for traffic and finding a parking space. - PLEASE MAKE SURE YOUR CHILD HAS GONE TO THE BATHROOM BEFORE ARRIVIVNG! :-) - After the concert, we will be bringing our classes out to an assigned cone in the courtyard. It is dark by that time and I am very protective of the my students. I do not allow my students to just run to their parents. Please make sure you have made specific verbal and/or eye contact with either me or Mr. DePauw so we can actually see your child leaving with you. MATH: Because of tonight's concert, no homework has been assigned. Today we spent more than an hour and half meticulously going over the math concepts taught in chapter 8. As with every chapter, the reviews are in the red homework folders. They have not been graded or checked for accuracy and they do not need to be returned to school. Our next math unit is a focus on comparing numbers. The "Friendly Notes" information sheet will be going home on Thursday of this week. Please keep it and use as a reference when helping your child with homework. SPALDING: There is no Spalding homework tonight. Students will have lists for Tuesday and Wednesday nights, a review on Thursday, and a test over 20 words on Friday. SCIENCE: The human body. *Please note - January's project week and project night will focus on the human body. Please watch for project week information in the next few weeks. GRAMMAR: Pronouns - words used in place of a noun LITERATURE: Frog and Toad All Year Have a fun week! |
