Hello! I hope everyone had a wonderful, relaxing break!!! SPALDING: We have a full week so we are back to 30 words. Encourage your child to spell the word on his/her fingers while they are practicing the words. This will not only help them, but it will also help you because you will be able to see what parts of the word they are having trouble with. In order to keep the phonogram practice to about 5 minutes, choose 15 - 20 phonograms to focus on. Focus on the same ones that are hard for the full week while rotating 5 easier ones each day. When doing the written phonograms - 1. You say the sound (s). 2. Your child repeats the sound(s). 3. Your child repeats the sound(s) a 2nd time while writing it. Monday: most, made, said, says, say, work, our, more, when, from Tuesday: form, wind (that blows), wind (a clock), print, air, fill, along, lost, name, room Wednesday: hope, same, glad, with, mine, chair, forgot, guess, hang, meat * On Thursday, when practicing each word once, pay close attention to how your child spells the word. Students may wear a navy blue pullover, cardigan sweater, or fleece with the school logo inside the classroom. Outerwear can be worn before school, after school, and during recess. Also, since it is easy for these items to get mixed up, please check your child's from time to time to make sure they have the one with his/her name. Have a great week! - Mrs. Spencer

Literary and Historical Figure Day was a lot of fun. We had two handsomely dressed toads and one adorable frog. At recess a wolf and two Little Red Riding Hoods played tag with two princesses from "The Princess and the Pea," a cow from "Maid and and Milk-pail," Sacajawea, Charlotte, an Egyptian princess and Old Mother Hubbard's dog while a very cute Ugly Duckling climbed on the ropes. Dorothy and the Cowardly Lion walked quietly through the halls. The fairy queen from Midsummer Nights Dream used her wand to point to directions on her paper, Sherlock Holmes used his magnifying glass to measure the units of a paper strip, and Abraham Lincoln somehow managed to keep his hat on all day.

In math I had student confidently walk to the front of the room and, while his classmates listened intently, he explained the attributes of a rectangular prism. During a history lesson about Ancient Egypt, the children heard a myth about the ancient Egyptian gods. A conversation then took place between some of the scholars about whether Set "was a bad guy" or not. Scholars not only approach me and tell me about how they showed friendship or responsibility, they approach me to tell me about their classmates' actions. "Mrs. Spencer, he showed integrity when he..." and "Mrs. Spencer, she showed citizenship when she..." Not only are they recognizing virtuous behavior within themselves, they are recognizing it in each other! Amazing! Amazing! Amazing!

Hello there! I wanted to remind you that this week is a four-day week. We will not have school on Friday, November 11th due to Veteran's Day. SPALDING: Continue to practice phonograms each night. You do not need to go through all 70 every night. Pick out 10 - 15 and focus on those during the week. Since we only have four days of school this week, we will only be learning 20 words. We will review the words on Wednesday and the spelling test will be on Thursday. Monday: deep inside blue post town stay grand outside dark band Tuesday: game boat rest east son sun help hard race cover MATH: This week we are taking a break from the intense study of addition and subtraction and we are focusing on geometry. Please continue to practice addition and subtraction flashcards. You can follow the same strategy for the math flashcards as you do with the phonogram cards. Focus on 10-15 math facts at a time. Homework for math this week: Monday - wk bk pgs. 146 - 147 Tuesday - wk bk pgs. 152 - 154 Wednesday - wk bk pg. 155 *Please note. This page is a puzzle using shapes. It is a fun page, but your child will need help completing it.* A few things to keep in mind when working on the math workbook pages for homework. Please do just the assigned pages. Each day correlates with the lesson taught in the classroom. We also do several of the pages in the classroom as well. The homework log in the red folder will always have the most up to date homework assignments as we do have to make occasional adjustments. READING/LITERATURE: Frog and Toad are Friends HISTORY: Ancient Egypt WATER BOTTLES AND SNACKS: Our days are getting cooler, but our scholars still get thirsty. Make sure they are bringing their water bottles to school every day. The students are allowed to have healthy snacks during their afternoon recess. Please make sure they keep their Halloween candy at home. :-) Have a wonderful week!!!! - Mrs. Spencer |
