I have been asked more than once lately what it is like to be a teacher. Good question. I am sure the answer is different for everyone. I can truthfully say that I love my job!! I guess, in some ways, I can liken it to being a parent. There are days when I feel exhausted and days when I feel invigorated. There are days when I wonder if I accomplished anything and there are days when I watch my students bloom. There is always one more e-mail I could write, one more tool I could try, one more minute I could use to teach a new concept, but at the end of each day I have to trust - have to know that I did my very best and accomplished amazing things. I know each child so so well. I know when each one of them understands, doesn't understand, is stressed, frustrated, exhilarated, and happy. I watch as my students grow and mature. Then I have to say good-bye and start all over with a new group just a few weeks later. So what is is like to be a teacher? It is exhausting, energizing, motivating, exasperating, challenging, fun, full of variety, not fulfilling, exciting... AND TOTALLY WORTH IT!

PROJECT NIGHT:
Last week was a very very busy week so it feels like project night took places many weeks ago rather than just a few days ago. I always love project night. The students are so excited to dress up and share about their character. There is a lot of people around. The energy is high. I always have to laugh to myself because students arrived in full costume and stay in full costume for... mmm... about 15 minutes. As the hour continues pieces of costumes comes off. Bit by bit pieces end up on the desks, under the desks, and sometimes in the desks. Thank you to all who came. I hope you enjoyed your time. I KNOW the scholars enjoyed their time!!!!!!!!!! If I may offer a suggestion about those wonderful costumes... They will work for Historical and Literary Figure Day next November! Now, I know everyone is going to grow 8 feet between now and next November, but some of the costumes may still fit. :-) ACADEMICS: Spalding - Scholars will learn 10 new words today, 10 new words on Wednesday, review on Thursday, and take the 20- word test on Friday.
