Last week's field trip was so fun! There were a few other schools attending the zoo for a field trip on the same day we attended. More than one parent made the comment to me that the Trivium East first graders were, by far, the most well behaved and respectful of all the schools that attended. Way to go first grade!
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you to all of the chaperones. Everything ran very smoothly and I knew all of the scholars were safe with each of you! Thank you! FIELD DAY: Our field day is this Friday, April 6th. I know the school is sending out e-mails with information but, like I did with the field trip last week, I wanted to make sure to include some information based on my experiences from the past three years. Some of the information my be a repeat of what is in the general information e-mails that are being sent out. 1. K-1 begins their field days activities first thing in the morning. Please make sure to apply sunscreen before your child comes to school. 2. Make sure all hats, sunglasses, and water bottles are clearly labeled. We will be traveling from station and to station. It is easy to accidently leave an item behind when transitioning between stations. 3. The K-1 events take place in the morning. There will be academics in the afternoon. Please make sure your child brings his/her homework folder to school. 4. The students will be getting wet. Please send a change of clothes and a change of shoes and socks in a plastic bag. Please refer to the school e-mails for more details information about the field day. MATH: This week we are starting our unit on "Numbers through 120." This unit is quite extensive and will last for a few weeks. I will be sending home "Friendly Notes" information pages almost every week. Hello!!
FIELD TRIP INFORMATION: A general field trip letter was sent home in the homework folders today and will be e-mailed through Jupiter however, there are a few things I was thinking about that I wanted to make sure I wrote. Much of it is a repeat of what is in the general letter, some of it may be a bit different just based on my experiences in the past years. Clothing - Students do need to wear their uniform. It is usually cool in the morning, but it does get hot. I suggest wearing the uniform shorts rather than pants. Chaperones are not responsible for children's clothing items so if your child wants to take a jacket make sure it is light weight so it can easily tie it around the waist. Hats and sunglasses are recommended. Feeding the Animals - Students may feed the animals. If your child wants to feed the animals please send quarters in a plastic Ziploc bag. Make sure your child's name is clearly written on the baggie. In the past, students have usually brought about 2 - 3 dollars in quarters. (Students will not be going on rides or purchasing items at the gift shop.) Sunscreen - Please apply sunscreen before your child comes to school. Lunches - Please send a cold lunch with your child. All food must be disposable and placed in disposable containers. Everything will be thrown away after lunch. In the past, students' lunches have been packed in paper sacks, large Ziploc bags, and or plastic grocery bags. Please make sure your child's name and class (1B) is clearly labeled on the outside of the bag. ( If your child wants to eat a healthy snack when they return to school, please place in a separate pocket in their back pack.) Water bottles - Students will be responsible for their own water bottles. Please send a clearly labeled disposable water bottle with your child on that day. That is everything I can think of at the moment. If I think of anything else I will send the information through Jupiter. Please e-mail me if you have any questions. SPALDING: Since we have the field trip on Thursday, students will learn 10 words this week. The review will be on Tuesday and the spelling test will be on Wednesday. MATH: We will finish up our unit on telling time to the hour and half hour this week. The chapter review will be on Tuesday and the test will be on Wednesday. LITERATURE: Sam the Minuteman HISTORY: The 13 Colonies Revolutionary War POETRY: "Washington" by Nancy Byrd Turner UPCOMING EVENTS: March 26th - 29th: Food and Water Collection Drive for St. Mary's Food Bank Tuesday, March 27th - PSO Family Night at Chipotle, 4 - 8pm Thursday, March 29th - Wildlife World Zoo field trip Friday, March 3th - No school Friday, April 6th - Athenian Field Day Please see the Athenian Echo for more details about upcoming events. Have a nice week! The fourth quarter always takes me by surprise. All of a sudden it is here and I realize that I will only have this particular group of students for 10 more weeks. 10 weeks is quite a long time but 4th quarter has a strange flow of time and all of a sudden I have the students for just one more week... then 1 more day... then I am saying good-bye... then my classroom is empty and I can't quite figure out how the ten weeks could have gone so fast. Just ten more weeks with these incredible children who are so full of light and love!
FIELD TRIP: Thank you to those willing to volunteer for the field trip. All chaperone spots are filled. MATH: We have two very short units coming up in the next two weeks. The first is a brief fraction unit. The "friendly notes" page was sent home today in your child's red homework folder. The fractions unit test will be on Wednesday. On Thursday we will start a brief unit on time. The "friendly notes" page for the unit on time will be in your child's red homework folder on Thursday. Please continue to practice the basic addition and subtraction math facts with your child. In about three weeds we will begin our unit on "Numbers through 120." Fluency with the basic math facts will help the scholars with that unit immensely. LITERATURE: We will begin reading Sam the Minute Man this week. HISTORY: This week we will begin studying the 13 colonies and the events that led up to the revolutionary war. UPCOMING EVENTS: Tuesday, March 27th - PSO Family Night at Chipotle, 4 -8pm Thursday, March 29th - Wildlife World Zoo Field Trip Friday, March 30th - No School Please see the Athenian Echo for more details about upcoming events. Have a nice week! Hello there. At the beginning of each new year I have no trouble remembering what year it is, but for some reason in February and March I keep wanting to write 2017 instead of 2018. :-)
FIELD TRIP: I am so thankful for all of the parents who said they were able and willing to volunteer for the Wildlife World Zoo field trip! As stated in the letter that went home last week, we are only allowed to take 7 chaperones per class. Since more than 7 people volunteered I will have to draw names and will let you know by this Friday. Thank you for the prompt return of many of the field trip permission slips and money. Please note - the permission slips and money are due no later than this Thursday, March 8th. MATH: The division unit is a very short unit so we reviewed for the test today. The test review is being sent home in your child's red homework folder today. The review was not check or graded for accuracy. We will be taking the unit test tomorrow. SCIENCE: We are finishing up our habitat unit this week. The habitat test will be on Thursday. A "Friendly Notes" study guide was put in your child's red homework folder today. POETRY: Poetry recitations for "Bird Talk" by Aileen Fisher are this week. UPCOMING DATES: Friday, March 9th - No School: ATE in-service March 12th - 16th - No School: Spring Break Have a good week and enjoy the spring break! |
