Hello to everyone. We have a lot going on this week! Let's start with upcoming events.
Monday 12th and Tuesday the 13th - Full days of school Wednesday the 14th - Friday the 16th - Half day dismissal. Students will be released at 12:00pm. There will be no lunch on those days so please send a healthy snack for your child to eat during recess. Thursday the 15th - Frog and Toad celebration *For those who volunteered to help with the event or bring in supplies, please notice the date change. Due to a last minute scheduling conflict, first grade was required to move our Frog and Toad celebration to Thursday. The classroom coordinators have updated the date on the sign-up genius. Friday the 16th - Last day of 1st semester We will continue with a strong academic focus throughout the week. SPALDING: We are learning 30 new words this week. The spelling test will be on Friday as usual. Monday - two, twin, twice, twelve, twenty, between, they, would, could, should Tuesday - any, many, city, only, where, week, weak, first, sent, cent Wednesday - mile, seem, even, without, afteroon, Friday, hour, our, wife, state MATH: This week is a math review of concepts taught throughout the semester. The students will be completing an assessesment that includes all the main concepts thaught. Student will not be bringing their math workbooks home at all this week. A mathwork sheet will be placed in your child's folder each day. POETRY: Students will begin reciting the poem "The Swing" by Robert Louis Stevenson on Thursday. A copy of the poem has been included with the homework log every week. SCIENCE: Plants LITERATURE: Frog and Toad All Year PROJECT WEEK LETTER: A letter has been placed in the red folders with information about the project week that will take place from January 3rd - 6th. First grade's focus will be on ancient Egypt. Today each child drew the name of a famous figure during that time period. The assigned figure has been stapled to the letter. As stated in the letter, all the research will be done during project week, students were assigned the historical Egyptian figure early so that you have time, if you choose, to begin thinking of possible ideas for a simple costume. Wow! We have a very busy week ahead of us!
KINDERGARTEN AND FIRST GRADE CONCERT IS TONIGHT! The kindergarten and first grade concert is tonight at the King of Kings church. The concert begins at 6:00 pm. Students are required to arrive by 5;20 pm. For more information on location and concert dress attire, please refer to the weekly ATE newsletters as well as the newsletters that Mrs. Sassaman sent out through Jupiter. We look forward to seeing you there. NO HOMEWORK ON MONDAY NIGHT: Because of tonight's concert, there will be no homework tonight (Monday, Dec. 5th). Homework assignments will begin on Tuesday this week. SPALDING: Monday - No homework Tuesday - mouse, phone, store, supper, through, toe, became, brother, rain, keep Wednesday - start, mail, male, female, eye, I, glass, party, upon Thursday - Practice all 20 words one time. Spend extra time on words your child is strugglinng with. MATH: We are working graphs this week. This includes reading a graph, answering questions about the graph, as well as creating graphs. This is a short chapter. We will be reviewing chapter 10 on Wednesday and the unit test is on Thursday. Be on the lookout for the chapter 10 information sheet. It will be in your child's red folder on Tuesday. Monday - No homework Tuesday - Math workbook pgs. 201 - 202 Wednesday- Math workbook pgs 207 - 208 Thursday - Practice addition and subtraction math fact using flashcards. (No math workbook) READING/LITERATURE: Frog and Toad All Year POETRY RECITATION: The poetry recitation of "The Swing" will begin the week of December 12th. The poem is included with the homework packet each week. UPCOMING EVENTS: Dec. 5th - Kdg. and 1st grade concert Dec. 6th - 2nd and 3rd grade concert Dec. 8th - 4th and 5th grade concert (all held at the King of Kings church) Dec. 14th - 16th - 12:00 dismisal (These half days will include a full academic schedule. Please plan on having your child attend school on these days.) OUR CLASS WON ANOTHER PIZZA PARTY! Our class won the PSO pizza party for the most money brought in for the Usborne book fair. Our pizza party is scheduled for lunch time on Friday, Decemberr 9th. This is for the students and teachers of 1B only. There will be plenty of pizza for all the students, however, you may still send a small lunch with your child if you choose. I do want this to be a surprise so I will not be letting my students know about the pizza party until Thursday afternoon. I do ask that you not mention it to them until after that time.
