ARTS WEEK:
As usual, arts week was a lot of fun. It was neat seeing the baskets that 1B put together for the Arts Walk. The art our class produced is amazing. We took our own art walk through the hallway as a class. Thank you to all who participated! ACADEMICS: Spalding - Students will learn 10 words on Monday, 10 words on Tuesday, 10 words on Wednesday, and review on Thursday. The 30 - word spelling test will be on Friday. Math - This week the students will be taking a daily quiz to test knowledge of the concepts taught during the school year. We will be reviewing daily as a class and then students will practice independently. The independent practice sheets will be sent home in the red homework folders each day. They have not been checked for accuracy or completion. Feel free to go over the review with your child. Please do not send the reviews back to school. History - Westward Expansion (Louisiana Purchase, Lewis and Clark expedition, etc.) Literature - Fairy Tales Poetry - "There Once was a Puffin" by Florence Page Jacques UPCOMING DATES: May 13-17 - Teacher Appreciation Week Monday, May 20 - Full Day of School at Archway Trivium East (Half Day Dismissal for Trivium Prep/Archway West) May 21-22 - Half Day Dismissal, 12 PM No lunch served. Wednesday, May 22 - Last Day of School Enjoy your week! Just recently the class was discussing a math problem. During their discussion they compared it to a very simple equation similar to what they worked on at the beginning of the year. I stopped them and said, "Wow! Look at that simple equation. Do you remember last September when you thought that this equation was hard? Now look at what you are doing now. Look at how much you learned!"
It is at those moments that I love being the one who is standing at the front of the class. Almost every student's eyes lit up and many of them sat up a little straighter as they realized just how much they accomplished. CONCERT: This is just a reminder that the first grade concert is tonight. Students must arrive by 5:30 for rehearsal. The concert is at 6:00. It won't be as dark outside at the end of the concert as it was after the winter concert. That makes things a lot less nerve-wracking for me as I can better see where my students are. We will be the last first grade class to leave the building so we will be the last class to arrive at the designated pick-up area. Once I know everyone is with me I can dismiss them to you. ACADEMICS: Spalding - Students will learn 10 new words on Tuesday, 11 words on Wednesday, review on Thursday, and take the spelling test on Friday. Math - Students will continue to work with money this week. The chapter review will be on Thursday and the unit test will be on Friday. At the first grade level, the best way to help you scholar with money is to just get out small handfuls of change and help them count! :-) Science - We are finishing up our astronomy unit. The geology and astronomy review is on Tuesday. A study guide will be sent home on Tuesday. The test is on Thursday. History - Westward Expansion Literature - Fairy Tales Poetry - "There Once was a Puffin" by Florence Page Jacques UPCOMING DATES: Monday, May 6 -K-2 Choir Concerts at King of Kings Church 3095 N 140th Ave, Goodyear AZ 85395 1st Grade - Concert at 6 PM (scholars arrive at 5:30 PM) Thursday, May 9 - 3-5 Choir Concerts at King of Kings Church 3095 N 140th Ave, Goodyear AZ 85395 Friday, May 10 - Half Day Dismissal, 12 PM No lunch served. ** Trivium Spirit Day ** - Art Walk Festival, 5:30-7:30pm May 13-17 - Teacher Appreciation Week I will see you tonight! |
